We did this for a bunch of the games last year - who will win the game on Saturday and why? Score predictions are good too
I think it will be a tough game but ECU won’t sneak up on the hokies like they did last year: VT 20 – ECU 10
I'm really torn here. Obviously I want the Hokies to win, but this game scares the crap out of me! Even though ECU's vaunted defense was mediocre at best last year. Did you read Chris Coleman's ECU preview over on Techsideline.com? Their defense was below average at best; 114th ranked pass defense, 50th versus the run; and 95th overall. And they gave up more than 31 points in eight of their 13 games last season. I think the potential is there for a huge loss for Virginia Tech, but I think we simply have more speed, strength and talent that will make up for the lack of experience. And, when your scout team QB is Tyrod Taylor, ol' Pinkney from ECU is gonna look like a turtle running around out there. Hokies win a nail-biter, 24-21.
Is the reverse jinx allowed, or would that be bad form?
VT- 24, ECU 14. No reasons why other than "We Are VT!!"
Break out the bourbon...
I've really been dreading this tread because there are so many vt question marks it's hard to know what to expect. This game should be a tough, low scoring affair (like last year) but maybe not. I could see ECU getting the run and/or passing game going against an inexperienced vt defense....or not. I could also see oglesby/evans/young wr's really opening some eyes and lighting up ECU's experienced defense...or not.
I think VT's defense holds ECU to 17 points max - any more will have to come from turnovers/special teams where I think the hokies have a big advantage...so the game comes down who will make the less mistakes and how many points the vt offense can put on the board.
I don't trust the vt offense yet: VT 17 - ECU 14 (and it might take another vt defensive touchdown to get there) Go Hokies!!!
Good analysis by all - the hokie nation is feeling confident! 100% votes for the hokies
I am so glad football season is back up and running. I can't believe we are 3 days away! Regardless, ECU is a great team (better than last year, and last year they were good). In last years home opener, there was a lot of pressure on the team to win big for 32... a very emotional contest, and our Hokies looked exhausted both physically and emotionally. This years team has a lot of youngsters that have rose to the occasion, a solid offensive line to protect Glennon, and a "faster" defense than last year. That is scary. VT rolls in this one by establishing the run with a solid offensive line with TDs coming from offense (1TD Evans, 1 TD Boone). Defensive and special teams will compensate additionally (Worilds fumble recovery for a TD), and a kickoff return by Macho (97yds). We will throw in a safety and a 36 yard field-goal (1 other attempt missed from 39yds) for a final score of 33-16. We will also block a punt and a extra point. Go Hokies!
If UFHokie is right on all that, me and him/her are planning a trip to Vegas.
Anyway, I see Glennon as starting strong this year, mirroring last year's initial INT. We'll get 2 TDs quick in the first quarter, then it will slow down. We'll go into half time up 17-3, come out of the half, and the teams will each score. ECU tries catching up but special teams does them in with a blocked kick of some sort and an offensive drive that eats a lot of clock.
Hokies 31-13
Good calls fellas! I think this will be a defensive game. Both offenses will struggle, and the Hokies will have a much better 2nd half than 1st.
The Hokies will win again on the back of our tight end. This year, it will be the play of Boone will be the difference maker, much like the game v. ECU last year when they just could not stop MY BOY SAM WHEELER.
Hokies win 21-10.
Worthless, but necessary reply: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!
