Tahrick Peak to Texas Tech, Nubian Peak to Transfer

Very surprising news from TSL today - this is something I had heard nothing about. VT redshirt freshman Nubian Peak and brother Tahrick Peak (a vt recruit) have asked to leave Virginia Tech. Both grew up nearby VT in Pulaski County and were three star recruits. As often is the case with a little brother Tahrick was slightly higher rated - listed as the No. 32 outside linebacker in the country and the No. 18 player in the state by Rivals.

Both had gotten the hokie nation excited with their speed - each running a 4.5 or better. Here is a phighlight video from Nubian when he committed two years ago.

I hate to see both of them go but I hope they find success in Texas or wherever they land

Incoming freshman linebacker Tahrick Peak has been released from his letter of intent. Instead of Blacksburg, he will head to Lubbock, TX where he will play for Texas Tech and new head coach Tommy Tuberville.

His brother, rising r-freshman Nubian Peak, has also decided to transfer. He has requested a release from his scholarship, and Virginia Tech has granted the request. It's not known at this point whether or not he will follow his brother to Texas Tech. Peak was expected to compete for playing time on the kickoff return team this season.

Tahrick broke team rules multiple times. I wish he hadn't, I wanted to watch them both play. Not sure why Nubian left. Don't rant on Texas Tech. Lower standards? Lower than Marcus Vick and Jimmie Williams? Texas Tech had the highest graduation rate in Div. 1 last year. It is a nice restart for Tahrick, and he will get playing time right away. I wish them both the best, and now can root for both the Hokies and Red Raiders.

How could Tahrick break team rules before he even got on campus? I read that it was an academic issue. Thus, TT has lower standards.

Well if the best DC and LB coach in the country ain't gonna miss them, then neither will I!

Doesn't seem to be any info on why they left. Maybe just a bad gut feeling...who knows. But who in their right mind would want to trade the consistency of our coaching staff with a green coach in a program wrapped up in a lawsuit with their former head coach? Not much sense to me, but it's a free country I suppose.

A strange decision indeed. Seems like I remember reading that they were lifelong VT fans and very excited to be in Blacksburg...close to home. Does anyone know why they left? Sorry to see them go, but on the bright side, it opens up two more scholarships.

The Roanoke Times has more on this story now that's it's been out for 24 hours: Neither of Pulaski's Peak brothers will play Hokie football next season

Long story short - Tahrick was denied admission to VT and Beamer suggested Hargrave to get his grades up. Tahrick called a Texas Tech assistant coach (ties to the Pulaski area) who suggested he transfer (shocker). No official word on Nubian's motivations but I would guess he's looking to stick with his brother and follow suit

I think we can do without another meathead.

I am glad that VT has higher standards than Texas Tech. I believe we lost Knowshawn Moreno to Georgia a few years back because VT required an additional math class.
