What a roller coaster week – I’ve gone from feeling like the season was over to blasting enter sandman and jumping into walls to really, really excited about the rest of the season. News flash– your hokies are now racked #6 in the nation!
This was pretty much a repeat of the 2008 Miami defense vs the 2008 VT offense…and we all know how long a day that was for our offense with Darren Evans finding very little running room and Miami’s defense coming up 6 sacks.
After a putrid performance vs Nebraska last week - who knew that the hokies could go out and control the line of scrimmage, look ok throwing the ball, keep Miami off balance and even get a few lucky bounces? Make no mistake – this win was still fueled by BeamerBall as evidence by the 14 pts (and missed field goal) off that were the result of turnovers or special teams play but it was refreshing to see the hokies string together long drives on Saturday
I’ve got bad news Hokie fans - I would fully expect more frustration in the next 8 games as this team has shown anything but consistency in the early going…but this team can make it to the ACC Championship game. I just want to see the team go out every week and execute – we were lucky against Nebraska – that didn’t happen and we still got the W.
We have two weeks to prepare for the big stretch against GT, UNC and NCSU that will determine the costal…as the hokies have to show up against Duke and BC but I don’t expect either team to be able to beat an athletic and battle hardened hokie squad. Some quality offensive output against suspect D’s will go a long way towards giving this offense the identity and confidence they will need to finish the season.
In other news….
Alabama and Nebraska games look a little better
Nebraska crushed another weak out of conference opponent this weekend…vthokiefans points out even better news – Bama continued to roll destroying SEC rival Arkansas 35-7 this weekend:
The Hokies’ only loss this season was to Alabama. Tech scored 24 points in that loss; the most points the Tide have given up this season. Alabama has given up only 28 combined points in their last three games. Only four weeks into the season and that loss doesn’t look so bad now.
George DelRicco is a cool ass mofo
While watching the game on Saturday I was introduced to stud mike LB George DelRicco (1992 – 1995). I was lucky to share a few beers with George and jaw his ear off for much of the game – really great time. George had plenty of stories of the 1993 win at UVA, Bud Foster and Beamer chewing people’s ears off, Druck and the 1995 Sugar Bowl. If you ever get the chance to meet George - tell him your a hokie fan and thank him for beating Miami and UVA
