After reading the post game interviews on BB stiney basically says we left 14 points on the field in the first half. Now, I was so pissed I can't go check out his story because after the game I deleted my DVR recording, but here goes:
On TT getting sacked on 3rd down of our first drive, two lineman (no names given) picked up the same rusher, leaving one untouched with an open receiver down the middle.
Going for it on 4th and 2 Boone missed a block that would've led to a big gain, or at least kept the drive alive.
On that 3rd down before the field goal he takes responsibility for a that play, wishes he had that one back.
On RY WILL's TD run being a perfect example of not executing correctly, the same play was ran earlier and nobody picked up the backside linebacker and got three yards that time they added motion, picked up the backer and got a TD.
So, maybe their is some truth to just being a block or in the right position away from great execution.

I agree - we were simply out-coached. That is a hard lump to swallow, especially having Bud Foster in the back of my mind, he is like superman! The boys played well - there were some problems, but they played as well as they were coached. Our offensive coaching has other schools lol I am sure. It amazes me...Stiney couldn't change up a game plan for love nor money. I bet he even has to have written directions on how to get to Lane Stadium as well as up to the press box. If anyone can find out were those directions are - hide them or give him directions to FSU, maybe he can help Bowden!!
Great analysis folks. You can say that one block here or one block there cost us 14 or 28 points but the fact is this is the 6th game of the season and most of these players are second or third year starters. This just proves the point everyone and their grandmother have been saying for years. The entire offensive staff (OC, QB coach, O-Line coach) need to be fired. There is nothing to blame any more like injuries or young players just piss poor coaching. Stiney just admitted it and the analysis proves it even more.
Oh by the way, the latest bowl predictions on ESPN show VT going to the da## Gator Bowl to play redneck WVU. GT gets the Peach bowl against South Carolina which makes since as this would be a true southern match up. So one loss moves us from contending for a national title to a third tier bowl and no ACC title or even coastal division crown. The one game we had to have no mistakes and they screw it up. Way to go Stinespring!
BTU - TSF had a game breakdown yesterday with basically the same take. This is part of the reason I was wigging out so much in the chat room during the game...
So the real key to this game was the opening quarter. To wit - the Hokies had 1st and 10 inside Georgia Tech's 50 yard line three times on their first three drives. They scored zero points. Let's look at each drive and see where it went wrong: After a big play on a 40 yard toss to Dyrell Roberts to get the ball on the Jacket 36 yard line the Hokies failed miserably in an old and painful (and familiar) way. They got blitzed. On 3rd and 12, the Jackets brought 7 rushers and sent one LB to cover the running back, leaving 3 DB's to cover Hokie receivers. So this left all three WR's on the right side of the field in man-to-man coverage. Jarrett Boykin ran a post and without any safety help, he was 1000% wide open for a TD. Tyrod Taylor absolutely in this situation has to be coached to take a 1-2-3 step drop and lay the ball out on the post in that man-to-man situation. Instead, he took a deep drop and then tried to step up against the rush at which point the late blitzer ran up the middle and sacked him. There is no excuse for this. None.
So the real key to this game was the opening quarter. To wit - the Hokies had 1st and 10 inside Georgia Tech's 50 yard line three times on their first three drives. They scored zero points. Let's look at each drive and see where it went wrong:
The second drive started on the Yellow Jacket 42-yd line. This was an old-fashioned run up the middle the first two downs and then throw in a passing situation. We've read this story before. Unfortunately the pass was completed short of the 1st down marker and the Hokies punted. I hate third down passes thrown short of the 1st down, especially on the sideline when there's no chance to have the WR (in this case, Dyrell Roberts) run for it…Again, Coach Stinespring called a 2nd down play on 3rd down and it gained five yards when they needed eight. Ridiculous. This was a great play by Yellow Jacket defensive lineman Jason Peters. He jumped up and tipped the pass at the line of scrimmage and then dove to make an interception. Now unfortunately backup guard Greg Nosal was blocking Peters and he just doesn't have enough game experience to know that when his man tips the ball, he is to grab and tackle the opponent. Remember that once the ball is tipped, there is no such thing as pass interference. Nosal looked around for the ball instead of hitting Peters and it cost VT. He'll know for next time.
everyone i talked to this last week said it's the defense that let us down, but i've been trying to tell everyone that the damn offense didn't get a TD in the first half and had we, the defense would've performed well enough to win it for us, the only one i hated was that Nesbitt run for a TD that never should've happened against our D, never
